Karma Nightclub Dover

When Dr Gupta approached Astounding back in 2007 after recently purchasing an empty nightclub in Dover, there was only one thing which sprung to the mind of interior designer Stephen Ward, a total rip out of the venues 3 rooms and service areas, “you only need to see the original photo’s to see why” he says.

That is exactly what they ended up doing.

Club Karma, previously NuAge and Studio One, has been phenomenally transformed. The renovation was a long and vigorous process taking over a year and a half but ensuring that the venue now caters for every clubber’s desires and opening under a cloud of success. It has certainly put Kent on the late night map.

Karma now boasts 3 individually themed rooms that are very different from each other but tie in well to create a unique ambience that can be felt throughout.

Clubbers enter through a wall of vibrant LED wall panels to the ground floor bar, Buddha Lounge.

Buddha Lounge is predominantly a themed, pre-club cocktail bar playing a mixture of Lounge & soulful house. Using luxury terrace furniture with, gold vinyl cushions, segmented into individual booths by back-lit voiles. A huge composite solid surface bar provides an appropriate place to relax and enjoy unusual recipes that are poured by experienced mixologists.

Upstairs bar Divas is an upbeat space playing dance, electro, house and anything that will get guests onto the red tiled glitzy dance floor. This room was predominately aimed at the female clientele with its deep purples, reds and big patterned tulip prints, Crystal chandeliers, mirrors, and a huge mirror ball from Light Engineering. A red Avonite bar beside a bespoke graphic print wall covering scream opulence and glamorous girly luxury.

Next door is the V.I.P. Bar, music in this room is Sexy R’n’B, funky house. Featuring what Steve Ward describes as “a raised V.I.P. area which is reserved for members and for those amongst you who feel like treating your inner celebrity“. The V.I.P. area features a table service with animal theme prints of Snake, leopard and elephant and LED back lit canvasses particularly a ‘WARLORD GOD’ canvas that watches over the entrance and the guests within.

Another feature of the space is the raised DJ booth which gives the DJ a commanding view over those on the dance floor, accessed via the raised V.I.P section and circular raised dance platform. Lighting & Audio throughout the venue has been subtly integrated into the interior design by Kent based Lightqube who specialise in Bar & Club lighting design and installation.

Steve from Astounding wanted to do something totally unseen in Kent adding “The venue is now like a 3 destination holiday venue but all under one roof. On a night out at Karma you can experience diverse visuals, tastes, sounds, comforts and experiences”. Clever space planning has ensured that each room can be separated off for mid week hire to maximise revenue. Karma nightclub is now at the pinnacle of Kent clubbing and has achieved what can only be described as a spectacular transformation from scratch.
